I'm in the market for a new car. I've done the small displacement four cylinder automatic front wheel drive four door 14" wheel thing for a couple of years (32 months) and I'm ready for some driving excitement.

Nobody really sells what I'm looking for, which is a brand new 1986 RX-7 with a number of modifications.

Here are the parameters of my search:

--preferably rear-wheel drive, but front is okay if the car is a known handler, and all-wheel drive is okay if the price and package is right

--preferably two doors, but four is okay if the package is right

--manual transmission no exceptions

--decent powertrain

--$20K to $32K

I won't go into all the pros and cons at this point, maybe a little later. But here is what I've been considering:

Honda Civic Si coupe
Mazdaspeed 3
Mazda RX-8
leftover Pontiac GTO
Nissan 350Z
Mazda Miata PRHT
VW GTI
Audi A4 2.0T quattro
Audi A3 2.0T S line fwd
Chevrolet Cobalt SS Supercharged
Acura TSX
Ford Mustang GT
Honda Accord V6 coupe
Infiniti G35 Sedan
Mercedes C230 sedan
Mitsubishi Evo
Mitsubishi Eclipse GT
Saturn Sky/Pontiac Solstice
Scion Tc supercharged
Subaru WRX

...And then there is the world of used cars where I've been looking at everything from Mazda Proteges to Porsche Boxsters.

...And then there are a number of new cars on the way -- TSX coupe, Altima coupe, BMW 1 series, the MAZDASPEED version of the Miata, Chevy V6 version of the Solstice/Sky, Civic Type R, Volvo C30, new Ford Focus, various Mustang GT variants (Boss 302?), VW R32 and Passat R36, G35 coupe, Supra, Camaro, redesigned 350Z, GTO replacement, G6 GXP, the next Evo, possible Ralliart Eclipse, VW Scirocco, Mercedes C class coupe, Cadillac CTS coupe, next Tiburon, Sentra V Spec, Audi TT, etc.
